Fingers and Toes

What to do with old work gloves?  They often wear out in just one or two fingertips, annoyingly.
But they are made of wonderful thick leather and it is a real shame to just throw them away.
Thanks to our man on the street in Japan, these wonderful boot covers were discovered, purchased and
brought back to Sydney town to admire and wear.

In true Shiftazine manner, some clever Japanese designer saved these cast-aways and repurposed them,
moving them from hands to feet in one brilliant and witty idea.
Love THIS snappy, fashion forward, centre on winter statement. Reuse, recycle, reinvent.

Step inside

The Lord Gladstone pub on Regent Street in Chippendale, inner city Sydney was the focus of an article in April entitled ‘Raw and Unedited’.
It focused on the powerful raw graphics that had been engaged on the pub’s street facade whilst renovations were occurring within.

Well, one very cold evening shiftazine passed through the street doors and found a space out the back that was
full of beauty, energy and visual life that warmed us to our toes and hearts.

The raw street graphics that had been placed on the street façade, delivered on the expectation that a sense of something true and exciting would be found within.
Art rocks.

This little piggy went to market...

To market, to market, to buy a fat pig, Home again, home again, jiggety-jig.
To market, to market, to buy a fat hog, Home again, home again, jiggety-jog.

Some of the most beautiful and precious things that I have ever bought were found
in some flea market or second hand store.
For a third of the price but a  thousand times more interesting, unique, special.

Flea marketing shopping is a universal past time.
From Athens to Paddington, the great hunt for the great buy motivates
many a sharp eye and a wily brain.
Go save something beautiful.

A mixture of delicious particles

One of the definitions for Suspension is: a mixture in which particles are
dispersed throughout the bulk of a fluid.
This definition is relevant to a great hidden cafe in the suburb of Islington, Newcastle.
The particles of deliciousness are well and truly dispersed throughout all the coffee served at this delightful destination.

The successful utilization of an object in a way that it was not originally intended for, always delights and
just goes to reaffirm shiftazine thinking.
Suspension Espresso cafe in Islington has taken old metal lockers and turned them into one of the best counters shiftazine has EVER seen.
Look at things from a different perspective...PLEASE.
Surprise and delight awaits you if you do that simple thing.

Suspension Espresso have their own roasted coffee blends.
You can enjoy them in the form of a great ‘Cap’ or long black, there at the Suspension Espresso,
surrounded by an inventive, up-cycled visual environment which is filled with music that engages.
Or you can take a bag of roasted beans home to create your own Suspension Espresso...
but I doubt it will be as much fun.
