Greece Colours:No.4 The Sweet and The Bitter

The sweet trill of the little bird’s song only emphasises the bitterness of where they are singing.
Dear little creatures born to fly and dance on the breezes, stuck in a tiny cage for the pleasure of humans who can leave at any time.

The sweetness of the twilight...

Take some unused shipping containers, place them in an unused dockland right in the middle of a thriving city, add food, music and lights and the rest comes of its own accord.
In November 2013, Brisbane's Northshore suburd Hamilton, welcomed the opening of a unique shipping container-based market called, Eat Street Markets.
With more than 50 shipping containers specially reconfigured as mini-restaurants, bars, galleries and produce stores, the markets aim to recreate the ambiance of a South-East Asian night market. www.northshorehamilton.com.au/?name=Eat-Street-Markets
Open on Friday and Saturdays from 4.00pm till 10.00pm,  and on Sunday from 11.00am till 7:00pm on the river right next door to Portside Hamilton, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

The threads of a good idea

At an opening last night I was almost more drawn to a wonderful jacket worn by someone than to the beautiful art on the walls.

I just had to ask where he had acquired it... New York, Paris, Sydney?

“Oh I made this myself. I just bought this tapestry from a Vinnie’s for $5.00 and then I sewed it on the back of this jacket.”

This is a great example of shiftazine thinking.
So go to your nearest charity store or church fete and see what beautiful tapestries or pieces of fabric that will transform a jacket or coat that has lingered in your wardrobe.

Colour Book: A world of colour in tomatoes

Once a friend of mine said she did not feel comfortable about eating a tomatoes that was not red, because that is the colour they are suppose to be.
But tomatoes were first known as pomodoro, which mean 'apple of gold'...so you see tomatoes were golden at first.

Now they are of all colours from purple to green and every other joyous hue in between.
They are the super food. They are an inspiration to cooks and eaters alike.

Long live tomatoes.

The 'Peasant' Culture of Brisbane

A few months back shiftazine ran an article looking at murals and how it takes some bravery to create one.
The Barracks in Brisbane Australia, boosts a bar called Peasant that has murals over all the walls and ceiling.
The murals were created by a well known local graffiti artist, who while painting these beautiful murals
jokingly commented that prior to the Barracks' reinvention from a derelict government building to a groovy shopping and dining precinct,
he use to break into the building to create his graffiti on the very same walls.
Now the bars in the precinct pay him to create this beautiful art. Just love a touch of irony.

Shift into reverse and see where it takes you

Reverse Garbage has become an institution in Sydney.
It is full to the brim with rubbish, and treasure, and junk and absolutely fabulous stuff!
It is waiting to be found and reinvented.

Open 7 days a week.  info@reversegarbage.org.au.

Wallism_Same Same but Different

The Sun was shining and Summer is hanging on and the watermelons keep flourishing
on the walls of inner city Redfern.
There is a joy in the graphic element that triggers universal memories.

Shiftazine salutes the generous street artist that gives their time and paint to brings us these delights.
